Napa Valley

Day 5  Today we headed to Napa. Once we got out of town and onto the highway, the A/C quit again. UGH! We spent the drive arranging for another AAA shop to look at it (hopefully warranty would cover it). We stopped on the way in and agreed to go unhook the trailer and then bring the truck back. We walked around while the looked at it and got a coffee at a Barnes & Noble. When we got back to the shop, they said it was undercharged and they could find no leaks. We reluctantly took the truck and left. The park at Napa was a slight improvement over the Sacramento park, but not a pleasant experience.

Day 6. We headed out on the bikes to explore the Napa Vine Trail that we had read about. The trail was a bit disappointing so we decided to check out the Oxbow Public Market before we headed back to get the truck to explore the town a bit. The real disappointment of the day was that the fuel card, which we had paid a ridiculous fee for overnight shipping did not arrive. UGH! Update – The sequence of unfortunate eveents was not over. After showering the shower in the trailer would not turn off. That took a trip to Home Depot to get a new hower valve cartridge and replace and then disassemble the valve to replace the cartridge. Fun evening.

Day 7 was the first day we actually just got to chill out and not be dealing with some kind of unexpected event. We drove north to St Helena and Calistoga. This area was the Napa Valley that we remembered from our trip here several years ago, although we stopped at the Clif Family Winery and it was not at all what I remembered from 10 years ago.  At Calistoga, the main street was closed to traffic for an event that was to take place in the evening. Calistoga is a nice little town that felt comfortable as we walked around the little shops. We stopped in at the Calistoga Bike Shop and picked up a couple of Napa Valley jerseys. We then went to Copperfield’s Books and found some good deals on books and grabbed a few. By then we were getting a bit hungry so we stopped at The Caleistoga Inn and enjoyed a great lunch stop. We really enjoyed the day, the area north of Napa is much more relaxed.Napa is a rather busy place with a “city” feel to it, while the Calisttoga/St Helena area is much more rural and relaxed. We feel we made a poor choice for the Napa Valley stop by not looking at this area for an RV park. Hopefully our trip is smoothing out as we prepare to head to our next stop in the Monterey area.
